Traditional Healers Workshop—Brackenhurst, Nairobi

TICAH co-hosted this gathering of traditional healers and kindred scientists to share their experiences and knowledge of AIDS and AIDS-related illnesses. Over 100 participants, many of them traditional healers, came from throughout Africa. We also invited healers from Native American, Thai and Chinese backgrounds as well as others interested in herbal remedies and holistic approaches to AIDS care.

15th ICASA—Nairobi

With the growing use of traditional medicines all over the world, traditional healers are increasingly seeking recognition and support for their work. In this context of growing demands for evidence of traditional medicine, a one-day satellite session was held at the 13th ICASA in Nairobi, Kenya. Five panelists shared their views on and discussed the evidence, safety and efficacy of traditional healing methods in two sessions.

15th International AIDS Conference - Bangkok

TICAH's team traveled to Bangkok to participate in the conference. We hosted a Treatment Stories Panel in which six of our Nine Lives interviewees shared their stories and showed us what they use to stay healthy. We hosted an unprecedented panel discussion, Looking to Traditional Medicines for Treatments of AIDS. Finally, we participated in the first Africa-Asia InterAction meeting.
