The base of all TICAH's work is active listening, listening to the realities of those living closest to a problem, those who are living the HIV/AIDS epidemic, those who want better relationships, better healthcare and a better life for ourselves and our families. We document what we hear and have compiled it in a selection of publications that includes books, newsletters and research papers.

One of the most fundamental aspects of TICAH's work is our process of documenting what we hear during the course of our work. We believe that active listening, really hearing the needs of those of us affected by AIDS, by insecurity, by discrimination, is the first step to designing programs that are effective in helping us stay healthy, treat illness, and maintain meaningful and productive lives. We believe that by creating the opportunity for those living closest to a problem to share their stories we are opening up the possibility for their voices to be heard and to contribute to the shaping of policies and programs that affect their lives and realities.

Our history is a history of finding ways to be heard and sharing what we hear with others living a similar reality and the policy and program makers that influence that reality. Over the years we have spent time listening to stories of people living with HIV who have shared their experiences of their own growth and change and of the treatment choices that they are making. We have heard about the herbs and foods that they are using to keep themselves and their families healthy and how they access them. We are listening to the stories of those who "died from AIDS" and the range of care providers who are helping to keep us alive. We have heard how communities in Asia and Africa are using and adapting traditions to help them manage their health in the modern world. We have heard how traditional healers and alternative medicine practitioners would like to change research protocols to better reflect the realities of their treatment approaches. Right now we are listening to individuals to find out about their sexuality and how it impacts on their lives.

Using our publications, we share with you what we have heard in our years of listening. Through this page we offer you the opportunity to preview our publications in addition to finding a store of research papers presented at TICAH hosted events and international HIV/AIDS conferences. We also produce a regular newsletter which you can download here or subscribe to for your own email delivery.
