Traditional Medicine Research & Policy

Research Protocols

There is need for approaches to conducting research on traditional therapies which will yield trustworthy results, and also remain appropriate to the therapeutic approach and its cultural context. Working with colleagues from the Integrative Medicine Foundation (IMF) in New York, TICAH has convened a panel of experts to propose research strategies and design research protocols appropriate to conducting research on traditional medicines in use for AIDS-related treatments.

TICAH and IMF had jointly published the findings and recommendations of this panel of experts in a book entitled, New Approaches to AIDS Treatment in Sub-Saharan Africa: Proposed Clinical Trial Methodologies for Traditional Medicine.
