Mordecai Odera

Head of Programs

What do you do at TICAH?

I am excited to be stewarding TICAH programming strategically, driving innovation and learning, and leading the creation of the systems, team and culture needed to achieve organisational and programming impact at scale.

What do you hope your work will do for the community you work with?

It is rewarding to contribute to an empowered community where everyone has the power and ability to make choices that positively impact their health and lives.

What do you love about TICAH?

TICAH's values of truly listening, co-creation and collaboration with people is impressive. TICAH's mission that augments the intersection between health, culture and indigenous knowledge is revolutionary to me.

Share a little about your professional background.

I consider myself a change management leader with over 16 years of experience conceptualizing and executing programs and projects, managing complex milestones while adapting to changes in the philanthropy space. For 11 years, I served in the humanitarian sector working to empower and strengthen the realisation of the rights of refugees and migrants. Previously I have championed community agency in health, facilitating capacity exchange and collaborations between communities and health systems. I am creative, doubling up as a strategist in communications in various leadership roles I have occupied over the years.

How do you spend your free time?

Outdoor activities and working on small projects take up most of my free time. Because I am curious about how things work mechanically, I enjoy fixing and diagnosing issues on older models of cars.
