Sheilah Warindi

Senior Program Manager

What do you do at TICAH?

Our program seeks to ensure that women and girls in Kenya have access to accurate information about sexual reproductive health and rights, as well as access to quality services.

What do you hope your work will do for the community you work with?

I hope that through the work we do, women and girls in Kenya will be enlightened about sexual reproductive health and be able to exercise their due rights to access these services.  I hope that women and girls in Kenya will realize that they have the power to make decisions over their reproductive health. This, coupled with accurate information will then help them to make informed, healthy decisions for themselves.

What do you love about TICAH?

I love the connectedness that TICAH has to the community. All our programs are connected to communities, seeking to learn from them as well as help them amplify their own voices.

TICAH always has an ear to community insight whether on issues, needs or specialty knowledge.  As a workplace, I love the warmth amongst us team members!!

Share a little about your professional background

I have been an activist for most of my professional life, starting off in children's rights and then shifting into adolescent girls and young women programming in reproductive health. All along I have had the pleasure of working with many communities, identifying issues and working with them in programming to develop solutions. I believe that knowledge is power and my work has continually revolved around empowering community members to know their rights and exercise their rights. This creates bolder communities in keeping duty-bearers accountable.

Who is the person (living or not) you would most like to have dinner with?

I would love to have dinner with Michelle Obama. I think she is smart, seasoned and so poised, hence I would love to pick her brilliant brain about life issues. I think she is also kind of goofy and hilarious and that just tells me that this special dinner (fingers crossed.. in this lifetime) will definitely be a grand time!!!
